What is SmoCo doing?

In 2018, Armand bravely embarked on his inaugural sailing lesson, and by 2020, we very spontaneously purchase the first boat we saw in person—because who needs a stable life, right? Fast forward to 2023, when we downsized, simplified- however you want to phrase it – our living situation by moving aboard, and in 2024, we waved goodbye to our jobs and set sail from our cozy little home port in Monterey, CA. Our mission? To drift wherever the wind, sunshine, and our trusty vessel, SV Cosmo, take us—no plans, no timelines, and definitely no destinations! Join our adventures aboard SV Cosmo, where we tackle life as full-time cruisers and part-time everything else: amateur diesel mechanics, plumbers, riggers, seamsters, navigators, and whatever other trade we need to learn if something breaks. Get ready for fun, exploration, and a few questionable decisions along the way!

The 2 month long saga of trying to fix our old top loading fridge, then trying to find a new marine fridge, trying to get it delivered to Mexico, demolishing the old fridge, and making a perfect cutout for our new fridge, is over. We are so stoked with our new front opening @isothermrefrigeration fridge and it even has a light inside! Now we just need to get the remaining fiberglass and sawdust out of the boat 😂😂😂 After 2 months without a fridge we finally got a new @isothermrefrigeration marine fridge delivered to us in Mexico. The story of the order process is a whole saga but we’re over the moon to now have it on the boat, wired up, and it even has a light inside!!! No more headlamps rummaging through the fridge at night 😂😂😂 Beauty of Baja. Sailing as the sun is coming up and lighting the mountain ridge with shades of red and pink is indescribable and we’re grateful to get to experience in the person. Only a few more days until Armand no longer has his Harry Potter bedroom 😂😂😂 Some ultra-wealthy Walmart heiress may own the land here, but no one owns the oceans and seas so we dropped hook in one of the prettiest and clearest anchorages in Baja. It’s 69 and raining in La Paz and we’re just dreaming of the hot summer days in Bahia de Los Angeles. Working hard or hardly working? What happens when it’s summertime in the sea and there’s a hurricane heading our way? We find a hurricane hole, which is an area with the best protection from swell and high winds, and hope for the best. Here’s nearly every cruiser that stuck around Bahía de Los Angeles this summer, holed up in Don Juan waiting for Hurricane Lorena. Luckily Lorena took a turn towards the pacific and we all went back to our regularly scheduled summertime activities 🎣🍻🌊👙🏖️⛵️🍹
